Terms & Conditions

Last updated: June 16, 2026

The short version: Unzo is a free, local archive tool. Your files are yours. The app is provided “as is”, so keep backups of anything important. Unzo can open RAR archives but does not create them.

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the Unzo application (“Unzo”, “the app”), published by Nixlight (“we”, “us”). By downloading or using Unzo, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. License to use

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Unzo for its intended purpose — extracting and creating archive files on your own device. You may not sell, rent, or sublicense the app itself.

2. Your content

You retain all rights to the files you open, create, or process with Unzo. We claim no ownership of them and never receive them — all processing happens locally on your device (see our Privacy Policy). You are responsible for the files you process and for having the right to do so.

3. Acceptable use

You agree to use Unzo lawfully and not to use it to handle content you have no right to access, or to infringe anyone’s rights. You agree not to misuse, tamper with, or attempt to circumvent the app’s technical protections, except to the extent such restriction is prohibited by law.

4. Archive formats and RAR

Unzo extracts zip, rar (including rar5), 7z, tar, gz, bz2, and xz, and creates archives in zip and 7z only. Unzo can read RAR archives but does not create RAR archives: RAR compression is proprietary, and Unzo’s decompression is built on the official UnRAR source, which may not be used to develop a RAR-compatible archiver.

5. Open-source components

Unzo includes third-party open-source software (including libarchive, the UnRAR source, the LZMA SDK, mbed TLS, bzip2, xz, and related components). These are used under their respective licenses, which are reproduced in full inside the app under “Open-source licenses”. In particular, per the UnRAR license: the UnRAR source code may be used in any software to handle RAR archives without limitations free of charge, but cannot be used to develop a RAR (WinRAR) compatible archiver or to re-create the RAR compression algorithm, which is proprietary.

6. No warranty

Unzo is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that every archive will open successfully.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Nixlight will not be liable for any data loss, corruption, lost profits, or any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, Unzo. Always keep backups of important files before extracting or compressing them.

8. Changes to the app and these Terms

We may update Unzo and these Terms over time. The current version of the Terms is always available here, with the “last updated” date above. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Nixlight operates, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory local consumer-protection laws apply to you.
